Eye Candy

The social role of the videophone can be interpreted as a vehicle for ritual reconstruction of self-image and personal identity. Hence, ache_me frames the videophone as our personal blue tooth, compact mirror. Vanilla ice-cream and ripe acne ejaculate into an awkward pubescent moment through the videophone screen [constructed in a very similar and minimal manner as 'blow' and 'under_ware']. ache_me attempts to ask, how will the videophone perpetuate culturally constructed ideals of personal image? will the videophone deliver both agony and ecstasy as modern compact mirrors?

Tanya Vision [aka. tanja visosevic, aka. tanya V] is a film and video lecturer, an independent filmmaker and a film critic who is currently obsessed with videophones. This fascination for micro-movies extends to her other work, such as 'the living screen' [a collaboration with guy ben-ary] which is a bio-new media installation that projects nano-movies through a microscope and onto a living canvas. Currently she is also working on a live videophone performance, entitled suicide_love_letter. Her mobile movies can be described as video candy, short and sweet.
